Two of Swords description

The two of cups takes place on a moonlight night, the moon symbolizing the passing of time on the outside, but you’re stuck in your head on the inside. The person in the card sits on a hard bench, her arms crossed, and she holds swords in each hand. Water bubbles up from the landscape, the tide of emotions coming in, barely held back. Her posture shows she is protecting her heart, and the points of the swords disappear off the page. She’s missing the point of something. The rocks in the background represent the parts of her past that can not change. She’s blindfolded, hiding from the truth or ignoring reality. She’s refusing to see.

Upright meaning

The Two of Swords can appear when you are being careful not to rock the boat. It’s the feeling of limbo, unwillingness to address an emotional wound. It can represent a break from a battle of wills between two people, a truce or a stalemate. You may need a period of respite to think, but don’t get stuck. You are at a crossroads and need to decide how to progress, both roads may appear to be equally good or bad. You can not see the entirety of your circumstance. You may be missing something that only time and experience will reveal to you. So take off the blindfold and move forward.

Reversed meaning

In reverse, Two of Swords can represent balanced forces, a lack of movement, sexual tension, or tension between opposites. You may be unhappy but afraid of change, resulting in a state of paralysis. Each party is unwilling to see the other’s point of view. Or, you might be stuck in the middle of two parties. Decide if you really have a role to play, and if you can not make peace, then get out of there or you’ll be caught in the middle. If you are faced with a difficult decision, listen to your intuition and keep an open mind. You might need to do a little more research. Or, perhaps you’re so overloaded with information it’s hard to make a decision. Sift through the relevant advice and information and make a sensible but swift decision.
