The World description
The last card in the tarot deck, The World card shows a beautiful, naked woman floating in the clouds. A wreath of laurel leaves encircles her, representing completeness, boundaries, and protection. Things have come circle. She has achieved balance, and duality, as represented by the batons. Her legs are in the same position as the Hanged Man. All of the lessons learns, and the shifts in perspective have lead you here. It wasn’t about the destination, it was all about the journey.
She has a new sense of wisdom and a unique point of view. Four figures are nestled in the corners, a lion, an eagle, a man, and a bull. Some say they are associated with the elements fire, water, air, and earth, respectively. Or the seasons. Summer, autumn winter spring. Another interpretation says they are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John from the Bible.
Upright meaning
The World card means you have the world on a string. You have put your own well being and happiness at the center of your efforts, and now you are reaping all of the juicy benefits. You are in your rightful place.
This card is the completion of a story or a chapter. It’s an internal and external harmony with the self and reality outside. In the words of Frank Sinatra, I’ve lived a life that’s full, I traveled each and every highway. And more, much more than this, I did it my way.”
This card often manifests as travel and adventures, especially international trips. Thriving in a job, relationship, or role that is serving you well. Spiritual and emotional health coupled with physical stamina. Be grateful for all that you have going for you, and remember it’s only up from here!
Reversed meaning
The World reversed is resistance to an ending, like a bittersweet goodbye. It can represent falling just shy of meeting your goals, and this usually happens for one of two reasons. Either you are not taking all of the steps necessary to reach your goal, or your goals are unrealistic and unachievable to begin with.
Stop and reassess your path from here to there. It could be helpful to work with a coach or a teacher who can offer an approach or technique that you haven’t tried. Sometimes all it take is a small adjustment to have big impacts. This can also be a sign that you need to protect your time and your energy so you can focus on tasks at hand. It’s time to centralize yourself in your world.
The World quote
