How to prepare for a tarot card reading

Tarot readings are what you make of them. The energy that you bring affects the interpretation of the cards. Before you sit down for your tarot reading, it’s important to be centered in mind, heart and body so that you can get the most out of the experience.

1. Clear your mind

Take some time to consider why you considered getting a reading in the first place. What thoughts are crossing your mind lately? Then, let those thoughts go and practice meditation. When I say mediatate, I don’t mean that you have to necessarily sit cross legged on the floor. You can go for a quiet walk, listen to a guided meditation or a podcast, practice yoga or even take a nap. Come to your reading with an open mind that is ready to receive new information.

2. Feel your heart

What do you want to get out of this reading? You might have a pressing question or situation that you want to discuss, or you be open to whatever the cards turn up. While you don’t need to come with a question, it is very helpful to know what direction you want to explore. The cards can not answer what will happen or what should happen. You have free will and you have the power to shape your own future. The cards are more powerful when we ask for direction or a new perspective. Questions like, “what do I need to know about this situation?” Or “what should I be more mindful of when making this decision?” are excellent ways to start.

3. Center your body

What kind of energy are you carrying with you? Be aware of how your body feels the day of your reading. I always find it helpful to get a good night’s rest, some light excersize and a snack before a reading. You should be sober for your reading, its not good to mix spirits with spirits. Most importantly, relax and make yourself comfortable.

Every tarot reader has a different way of doings things. As long as you bring an open mind, positive energy and a healthy outlook you will do just fine. Be yourself, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
